The Waikato District Council consists of around 44,000 Waikato residents and is represented by a Mayor and 13 elected Councillors. The Council meets regularly to discuss and make policies regarding the Waikato district, the performance of the Chief Executive, contracts, committee structure, committee memberships and delegations, and Iwi relations.
The Waikato District Council meeting is held on the fourth Tuesday of each month with the exception of January. Meetings are scheduled to begin at 1.00pm.
The role of the elected Council is to:
- Set major policy (including strategic, annual and district plans, long-term financial strategies and funding policies)
- Appoint and monitor the performance of the Chief Executive
- Approve contracts
- Determine the Council's committee structure, membership and delegations
- Manage Iwi relationships
The Waikato District Council endorses recommendations made at committee meetings, and in addition makes decisions on matters that are not delegated to committees.
For more information contact the Chief Executive, Gavin Ion or the Council Support Team on any matter relating to Council.
