Roading is an important part of the Waikato District Council’s services and is probably the Council's most visible service in the community as virtually everyone in the district uses a road on a daily basis. Through the provision of roading, Council is focused on high standards that promote safety and enable easy access to all parts of the district and beyond.
Roading is also the highest area of expenditure of any Council activity. The Council provides for the maintenance and upgrading of almost 1,700km of roads in the district, with particular emphasis on safety for all road users and improving road surface quality.
The Council actively promotes and facilitates safety improvements, especially road and rail crossings, footpaths, pedestrian facilities, street lighting, road markings, signage and intersection improvements.
Here's some interesting statistics about the Waikato District Council’s roading network:
- Total length of road – 1,676km
- Sealed roads – 1,223km
- Unsealed roads – 453km
- Footpaths -109km
