Occasional food premises and non registration

Registration under the Food Hygiene Regulations are not usually necessary when:

  • Your premises are used only occasionally eg a school fair or a non-profit organisation’s occasional fund raising events
  • You do not sell to the public, eg a works canteen, club, school or rest home. An Environmental Health Officer may still inspect your premises and charge an inspection fee – in this case a ‘Health Inspection Certificate’ will be issued

If your operation falls within one of these categories you must still comply with the safe food handling and storage requirements of the Food Hygiene Regulations.
