Food premises

Prior to food being manufactured, prepared or sold to the public the premises or operation must be registered, see legal requirements. Currently most of the food premises in the Waikato district are registered under the Food Hygiene Regulations.

It is an offence to operate food premises without a current certificate or an approved Food Control Plan. Food cannot be prepared in a domestic kitchen and sold to the public.

There is currently no grading system in relation to food premises in the Waikato district, although one may be implemented either through national legislation or a local bylaw in the future.
