An Animal Control Officers RottweilerThe animal control activity is a community safety service focused on:

  • Control of dogs in the community
  • Registration of all dogs
  • The enforcement of relevant legislation and bylaws

Animal Control Officers respond to requests for property inspections for registration rebates and permit applications, as well as responding to complaints or concerns for offences under the Waikato District Council Dog Control Bylaw 2007 and the Dog Control Act 1996.

We respond to concerns such as:

  • Dogs attacking or threatening people, domestic animals, stock, poultry or property
  • Roaming dogs
  • Keeping unregistered dogs
  • Dog nuisance, such as loud and excessive barking or howling

The Waikato District Council’s Animal Control Officers also respond to reports of stray stock obstructing public roads.
