Waikato District Council has approved its 10 year Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP), which includes a 4.99% general rate rise for the coming year. The LTCCP sets out Council services, projects and expenditure from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2019.
Mayor Peter Harris said Council had concentrated on maintaining present assets, and new capital works had been minimised to an extent, due to the economic downturn.
Major projects identified over the next 10 years include nearly $33m of capital projects to upgrade water supply systems, and about $2.7m to upgrade stormwater systems. Council will continue to invest in roading infrastructure and a Reserves and Recreation Strategy will be completed.
264 submissions were received to the Draft LTCCP on a variety of topics. Some of the most frequently commented on topics included the Huntly Pool opening hours and Council providing affordable housing in Raglan.
Council also received a number of submissions on walkways and footpaths. “On a number of occasions these were from groups that wanted to help themselves and Council is keen to help them,” said Mayor Peter Harris.
