Coastal reserves

There are three popular coastal reserves near Raglan in the Waikato district which are maintained by the Council.  Each of these reserves are located a short distance from each other.  If you would like to locate these coastal reserves, please use our interactive map.  These reserves are no camping areas.

These coastal reserves are:

  • Wainui Reserve
  • Manu Bay
  • Whale Bay

Wainui Reserve

The Wainui Reserve offers spectacular views and a variety of recreational opportunities, such as:

  • Swimming
  • Surfing
  • Sightseeing
  • Kite flying
  • Hang gliding
  • Kite surfing

The Wainui Reserve also hosts music events at the reserve’s amphitheatre, and subject to Council agreement, weddings can be held at the reserve.

Manu Bay

Manu Bay is a popular site for surfing and is well utilised for surfing by local, regional, and international surfing communities. Surfing events are held at Manu Bay, attracting large crowds. Manu Bay is also a popular site for fishing.

Whale Bay

 Whale Bay is another excellent venue for surfing in Raglan.
