Electronic database resources
Enjoy free online access to a wealth of resources and information available from our online databases. The exception is Ancestry.com which can only be accessed at your local library.
Some of the databases below require your library membership card number to be entered and others are accessible simply by clicking on the logo (see below).
The databases and what they offer
The following databases do not require your library card number:
- RDS Business Suite - resources for business, industry, management practices
- National Library of New Zealand - This also gives you access to the New Zealand National Union Catalogue, the Australian National Bibliographic Database and OCLC WorldCat
- Index New Zealand - New Zealand periodicals and articles from New Zealand journals
- Grove Art - the home of Grove Art Online and the access point for Oxford art reference subscriptions and publications online
- Grove Music - the home of Grove Music Online and the access point for Oxford music reference subscriptions and products online
The following databases do require your library card number:
- Thomson and Gale - A collection of 12 databases including books and authors, biographies and general, health and wellness, world history and the student resource centre
- EBSCO Host - The Australia/NZ Reference Centre combines Australia and New Zealand specific magazines, newspapers and newswires, reference books, and company information to create the largest collection of regional full-text content available to schools, public libraries, and academic institutions.
EBSCCO Host also gives access to MasterFILE Premier, a multidisciplinary database that provides full text for nearly 1,700 periodicals, nearly 500 reference books and over 164,400 primary source documents, as well an image collection of over 592,000 photos, maps and flags.
- Britannica Online - library edition - An online encyclopaedia, with levels to suit all users
- Oxford English Dictionary - The definitive record of the English language
- Proquest Science Journals - Science and scholarly journals
